UPSA Object Registry

Everything science has measured, on one card.

Astronomy keeps its knowledge in separate archives — one for what an object is, another for how precisely it was measured, others for planets, for small bodies, for galaxies. This register pulls them onto a single card per object and keeps every published value with the paper it came from.

Any identifier works — NGC 224, HIP 21421, Gaia DR3 2081900940499099136, 433 Eros. Coordinates open a cone search. A name we do not hold yet is fetched from the archives on the spot.

How the register grows

  1. Seeded

The whole Solar System, every confirmed exoplanet with its published parameter sets, and the well-cited part of SIMBAD are loaded and held here, not proxied.

  2. On demand

Ask for something we do not hold and the registry queries SIMBAD, JPL and NED live, writes the answer into the register and keeps it. The catalogue thickens as it is used.

  3. Deepened

Opening an object triggers a harvest: every SIMBAD measurement table, the Gaia DR3 row, NED redshifts and the VizieR spectral energy distribution.

  4. Refreshed weekly

Archives publish continuously. A weekly pass re-reads them, adds what is new and re-harvests the records people read.
